PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown said he’ll be playing on Sunday for a boy who was injured in the deadly Northeast Philadelphia jet crash.
On X, Brown called 10-year-old Trey Howard a hero. The boy was in the car with his father and sister on Jan. 31 when the medical transport jet plummeted to the ground on Cottman Avenue.
His father, Andre Howard, said Trey was protecting his sister when he was struck in the head by debris.
“You just hear a loud bang and then a ball of fire. And I turn around and he has metal out the side of his head,” he recalled.
Trey is now recovering from emergency brain surgery to remove the metal from his head. When he woke up, he had only one thing on his mind.
“He asked me, ‘Daddy, what’s today?’ I said Monday. ‘OK. Wait, we didn’t play yesterday, did we?’ No, we didn’t miss the Super Bowl. He’s a die-hard Eagles fan,” said Andre Howard.
Brown wished Trey a “speedy recovery” and said he would visit him when he returns from New Orleans, “hopefully with some hardware” with him.
Trey was one of at least 24 people injured in the crash. Six people aboard the plane died, as well as one man on the ground.
