Bartolo Colon found a way to recreate his magical first career home run with the Mets back in 2016.
Well, almost.
Colon was playing a friendly game of baseball in his hometown in the Dominican Republic this past weekend, and when he stepped up to the plate, the 47-year-old once again showed off his power stroke, mashing a home run to dead center nearly five years after going deep for New York on May 7, 2016 in San Diego.
It was a no-doubter, just like the home run he yanked to left field off James Shields that sent Mets fans into a frenzy. In fact, one twitter user synced up Gary Cohen’s audio of his home runs call to Colon’s latest bomb, and it was as glorious as you’d expect.
Too bad the National League won’t have a universal DH in 2021. Colon could have had a chance to earn a spot and play in his 22nd MLB season.
Colon was last in the majors in 2018, tossing 146.1 innings with the Rangers when he was 45 years old. He pitched for three seasons with the Mets and was an All-Star in 2016. Colon recently signed a one-year deal to play for Acereros de Monclava in the Mexican Baseball League.
For the record, Colon didn’t touch home plate on this home run, but we won’t say anything.
