ROMULUS (WWJ) – This Saturday the Beaumont Student Heart Check program is hosting a free screening at Romulus High School, giving parents an opportunity for a comprehensive screening to check for heart-related issues in their teens.
The program’s mission is to catch any potential warning signs of heart problems that could become more serious down the road. The Heart Check is meant to supplement a typical sports physical.
WWJ’s Ryan Wrecker spoke with program manager Jen Shea about the screenings and how to register.
The roughly hour-long process includes a check for a heart murmur, an EKG — a check of the heart’s electrical rhythm — and a brief echocardiogram, an ultrasound on the heart. Cardiologists will also review medical history with the students.
Registration is free and no insurance is required. As of Wednesday afternoon, about 50 slots remained open. Visit Beaumont’s Student Heart Check website to register.
