As Carlos Rodon walked off the mound at the end of the second inning of Wednesday’s game, having already given up four runs, he blew a kiss at an angry Yankee fan who was not happy with the $162 million lefty’s performance.
Rodon was quickly criticized by fans on social media reacting to the viral clip of Rodon blowing the kiss as he made his way down the steps into the Yankee dugout, and after the game, Rodon acknowledged that it likely would have been best to not give any kind of reaction.
“I guess it was the best reaction I could give. Better not to give a reaction, I guess,” Rodon said. “Just one of those things where I was frustrated. Better to blow a kiss or not do anything at all. Just a frustrating outing, that’s for sure, and I showed it.”
Rodon missed extended time in his debut season with the Yanks due to injury, and after a strong introduction, he has been roughed up in his last two outings, now holding a 7.36 ERA through three starts. The lefty says his frustration got the best of him in that moment.
“I didn’t really pay mind to what exactly was said,” Rodon said. “A fan was angry, as they should be. I’m angry too. I was angry with myself and blew a kiss, unfortunately.”
