Lions hoping Marcus Davenport's shoulder injury 'won't be too bad'

For the second year in a row, Marcus Davenport has been injured in his second game of the season. The Lions' starting defensive end banged up his shoulder in Detroit's rout of the Bears on Sunday and twice left the game, but returned both times.

Davenport didn't exactly quell concerns about the injury in the locker room after the game. Asked if it was serious, he replied, "Sh*t, I don't know. We're about to see," and deferred further comment to the team.

Dan Campbell said Monday that the Lions are still getting the shoulder looked at but sounded optimistic that if Davenport does have to miss time, it won't be much. It doesn't seem as dire as Davenport's season-ending torn triceps last year.

Campbell said he wasn't sure about Davenport's status for next Monday's clash with the Ravens: "I don't know. It’s a good question. I’m hoping it won’t be too bad, but until we got a couple of these second opinions back I won’t know for sure."

Davenport, who also missed most of the 2023 season with an ankle injury, originally hurt his shoulder late in the first half Sunday, then re-aggravated it in the second half on a sack of Caleb Williams. He wound up playing 23 snaps after logging 33 in the Lions' loss to the Packers in Week 1.
