The Lions will kick off the season in three short months, in Canton, Ohio.
The Lions are playing in the NFL's annual Hall of Fame against the Chargers on Thursday, July 31, the club announced Wednesday. The game will start at 8 p.m. as part of Enshrinement Week at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Lions are coming off a 15-2 season and their second straight NFC North title, while the Chargers are coming off an 11-6 season and a playoff berth in year one under Jim Harbaugh.
"This game features two teams that can be considered legitimate contenders to reach Super Bowl LX in San Francisco next February,” said Pro Football Hall of Fame president Jim Porter. "For them to face each other right out of the gate in Canton, Ohio, should create a dynamic opening to another spectacular NFL season."
It will be the Lions' fourth appearance in the Hall of Fame Game, and first since 1991 when they beat the Broncos. Their other appearances came in 1976 against the Broncos and 1965 against Washington.
Tickets to the game will go on sale to the public Monday, April 28 at 10 a.m and can be purchased here.
