As it stands today, the Pistons will enter next season with Bojan Bogdanovic and Killian Hayes on the roster. Both were nearly traded together last season.
The Pistons and Mavericks discussed a deal centered around Bogdanovic that also that would have sent Hayes to Dallas ahead of the trade deadline, but Dallas balked at "Detroit’s asking price of a first-round pick," according to The Athletic.
The Mavericks would have also sacrificed veterans Tim Hardaway Jr. and JaVale McGee in the trade, which could have included two other teams.
Dallas and Detroit reportedly "renewed conversations" about a Bogdanovic trade last week, so neither Bogdanovic nor Hayes is necessarily a sure bet to stay with the Pistons.
Bogdanovic, who's signed for two more seasons at about $19.5 million per year, clearly has the higher value of the two. He averaged a career-high 21.6 points per game and shot 41.1 percent from three in his first season with the Pistons.
Hayes, though still just 21 years of age, is a seventh overall pick who's yet to find his stride in the NBA.
