The Pistons set a franchise record Wednesday night. But not the kind you want to break.

A 133-107 home defeat to the Lakers made it 15 straight losses for Detroit, which fell to 2-16 after starting the year 2-1.

The franchise had lost 14 straight games in a season on three other occasions: 1979-80, 1993-94 and 2021-22. Detroit also saw separate 13-game losing streaks in both the ‘80 and ‘94 seasons.

To start the 1980-81 season, the Pistons lost seven straight, meaning the record loss streak extended to 21 games over two seasons.

Like many during this stretch of futility — which dates back to before Halloween — Wednesday’s game was never really a contest. The Lakers raced out to a 38-24 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

D’Angelo Russell led LA with 35 points, while Anthony Davis put up a double-double with 28 and 16 rebounds. LeBron James, a month shy of his 40th birthday, had 25.

Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 15 points, Isaiah Livers had 14 off the bench and Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart each had 12.

The Pistons will look to put an end to the misery on Thursday as they travel to Madison Square Garden to face the Knicks.
