Close, but no cigar.
After looking down and out by the time the ninth inning rolled around Tuesday night at Comerica Park, the Tigers put up four runs to force extra innings against the Angels, but ultimately fell short.
Spencer Torkelson came close to ending things with a would-be, three-run walk-off when he launched a two-out drive to deep center field.
But it fell just short of the wall – and just beyond the glove of Mickey Moniak – and bounced into the shrubbery to tie the game at 6-6.
Moniak made up for it the next inning, driving in the go-ahead run to deny Detroit’s comeback bid.
It would have been the Tigers’ first three-game winning streak since May 3-6.
