A nearly three-hour rain delay turned into a four-run deficit, which turned into a long night for the Tigers and their fans at Comerica Park.

Behind six strong innings by Logan Gilbert and a few big swings, the Mariners took down the Tigers 8-4 Tuesday night in Game 3 of the ALDS. The Tigers' offensive slumber continued. They had 11 hitters go down in order from the fifth through the eighth and didn't break through until they were down 8-1 in the ninth.

The Tigers will be playing for their season in Game 4 Wednesday afternoon at Comerica.

Jack Flaherty looked sharp early on for the Tigers, but soon ran into trouble. Three hits and a throwing error by Riley Greene that squirted through the legs of Dillon Dingler led to two runs in the third, and Eugenio Suarez homered to lead off another two-run rally in the fourth.

The Tigers tried mounting a rally of their own in the fifth when they put runners on the corners with one out, with Kerry Carpenter at the plate. But Gilbert got Carpenter and Gleyber Torres to ground out to end the threat.

The Mariners blew the game open on homers by J.P. Crawford in the sixth and a two-run bomb by Cal Raleigh in the ninth.
