The Tigers have made a trade ahead of Tuesday's 6 p.m. deadline. The club is sending reliever Andrew Chafin to the Rangers for two minor-league pitchers in Joseph Montalvo and Chase Lee, per the Dallas Morning News.
It's the Tigers' second trade with Texas in the last three days. They also sent the Rangers catcher Carson Kelly in exchange for pitcher Tyler Owens and catcher Liam Hicks, two prospects in Double-A.
Montalvo was the 27th-ranked prospect in the Rangers' system, according to MLB Pipeline. The 22-year-old right-hander has a 2.44 ERA and elite strikeout-to-walk numbers in 13 starts in High-A this season.
Lee, who did not rank among the Rangers' top 30 prospects, is a 25-year-old right-handed reliever who's pitched in Triple-A for the past three seasons. He has a 1.69 ERA in eight appearances this year.
Chafin was in his second stint with the Tigers, posting a 3.16 ERA over 41 appearances this season. He signed a one-year, $4.25 million deal with the club last winter with a $6.5 million club option for next season.
Scott Harris and the Tigers have two of the most coveted pitchers on the trade market in Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty, the latter of whom is much likelier to be dealt as a two-month rental.
