49ers fans are still playing the waiting game when it comes to Nick Bosa’s holdout.
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has been M.I.A. for all of training camp, missing more than a month of practices and all three preseason games, but it sounds like a resolution could be coming soon.
On Wednesday’s edition of “The Morning Roast”, KRON4 sports director and 95.7 The Game contributor Jason Dumas discussed his report that Bosa is expected to get a deal done this week and be ready for the Sept. 10 opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I’m expecting that they’re gonna get a deal done in the next couple of days. That’s what I was told,” Dumas told hosts Bonta Hill and Joe Shasky. “I was told he can’t be had (via trade) and he will be there Week 1. It’s just ironing out details. That’s what Niner Nation should take heed on. I don’t think they should run on these trade rumors. The Niners aren’t going to give away Nick Bosa. They know how important he is to their success. They like the fact that they drafted him and he’s a homegrown product. They want him to be in the red and gold for years to come.”
That should come as a relief for The Faithful, as some fans have been in a tizzy about some unfounded trade rumors on Reddit, speculating that Bosa could be traded to an AFC team. We have to assume that money is the holdup, as Bosa could be trying to surpass Aaron Donald’s $31.7 million average annual value as the top-paid defensive player.
“They wanna compensate him,” Dumas said. “I’m no cap wizard. I don’t know how all of this stuff works, in terms of numbers and future projections of the cap hit. I just know they want him on their team and everyone is confident that he will be lined up on the edge in Pittsburgh.”
