If you’re like many gamers out there who loved the old EA Sports “NCAA Football” games, it’s time to clear your summer schedule.
The beloved franchise is officially making its return, as EA shared a teaser trailer for “College Football 25” on Thursday. No firm release date for the game has been announced, though we can expect a full game reveal in May, likely with gameplay footage, a cover athlete and more.
“Yeah, It’s really happening! Coming this summer. Full reveal in May,” EA said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“A little update for our fans from the Big House to the Bayou. From Carolina to California,” the teaser trailer says.
While no actual gameplay was shown in the trailer — not even so much as a single play or a sneak preview of a stadium — we did get a look at some mock-up animations and early-stage renderings.
It was enough to whet the whistle for us fans of the game who have been longing for its return since we first learned that “NCAA Football 14” would be the last game of the franchise as we knew it.
Anticipation for the return of the franchise has been building for two years since EA announced plans to revive it in February 2021. Last May EA announced it has contracted with OneTeam Partners to help facilitate the us of FBS players’ name and likeness in the game, though it seems many details are yet to be finalized.
The College Football Player Association has urged players to boycott the game, as they don’t feel players will make enough money on their likeness. EA, however, said those who opt out of having their likeness in the game will have their roster spot replaced by generic players — the same concept used in previous editions of the game.
While the hype reached a new high with Thursday’s teaser drop, a lot of fans are still slightly apprehensive about the new edition of the game. We don’t know exactly what it will look like.
Will it be full of micro-transactions similar to the ultimate team modes we see in “Madden,” “FIFA” (now known as “EAFC”) and countless other games? The answer is likely yes, but how EA presents it will be the “make-or-break” point for many.
What many fans really want to see is the good ol’ “Dynasty” mode we knew and loved so much. The presentation, the gameplay, the graphics, the stadiums, traditions and pageantry are all important too, but the Dynasty mode must be the focus.
Who didn’t love taking a low-level school and turning it into an absolute powerhouse? And who can’t wait to do it again this summer?
