Giancarlo Stanton sets another Statcast record…with a sacrifice fly?

When you’re Giancarlo Stanton, even sacrifice flies are loud off the bat.

With the Yankees seeking insurance in the bottom of the eighth against the Blue Jays on Tuesday night, Stanton sent a missile to left field, but right at Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Still, it was just enough to score Josh Donaldson from third base to extend New York’s lead to 4-0.

The sacrifice fly, like many balls off of Stanton’s bat, was unlike any seen before in the Statcast era, traveling off the bat with an exit velocity of 116.2 mph, the highest exit velocity for any sac fly since 2015, when Statcast began tracking the metric.

That’s just 0.1 mph lower than the home run he laced just over the right field wall on Opening Day
