Golfer charged for beating goose struck by ball to death on golf course

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials have charged a golfer for allegedly beating a goose to death with his club at a golf course last week, authorities announced Monday.

On Friday, August 18th, the Putnam County SPCA responded to a call from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police after receiving a complaint regarding a report of a golfer beating a Canada Goose to death.

Witnesses claimed a Canada Goose was struck by a golf ball and dazed.

A golfer on the 14th hole then proceeded to allegedly strike the goose several times with his club, walk away, then notice the goose was still moving, come back and strike the goose again.

Witnesses tell the Putnam County SPCA that the golfer was trying to put the goose out of its misery.

Putnam County SPCA charged Enrico Sarli with allegedly committing one count of Animal Cruelty.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Police issued Sarli a summons for his alleged violation.

Sarli will be arraigned the Town of Carmel Court on September 12th.
