The Lions are in Minnesota on Sunday to take on the Vikings and reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers.
Because the legend of Kirk Cousins is real.
Not the Kirk Cousins who just threw three picks on Monday Night Football in a loss to the Eagles. Primetime Kirk Cousins is a different quarterback, a man who's 2-10 with an 85.2 passer rating on Mondays and 3-5 with a 91.0 rating on Thursdays and who threw for 87 yards the last time he played on Sunday night.
But Kirk Cousins on his home turf in the 1:00 window? That Kirk Cousins is a problem, and that's who the Lions are getting on Sunday. Last time we saw him, he tossed two 40-yard touchdowns and finished with a near-perfect passer rating in a breezy win over the Bears in the Vikings' 2021 season finale.
Because that's what he does.
Since 2019, Cousins has played a full season's worth of games in the 1:00 window at home. The damage: 366-523 for 4,506 yards, 38 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a passer rating of 110.9.
And here's Rodgers in 2021: 366-531 for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns, 7 interceptions and a passer rating of 111.9 -- and the fourth MVP award of his career.
They are almost the exact same quarterback, down to the sheer number of completions. Only difference is MVP Rodgers (technically) lost to the Lions last season. Home-turf, 1:00-window Kirk Cousins is 4-0 against them since joining the Vikings in 2018.
If the Lions beat him on Sunday, it's two wins in a row over Rodgers.
