Jim Harbaugh is reportedly eyeing a return to the NFL -- but the NFL isn't eyeing Harbaugh.
And maybe that's for the best.
In an interview Wednesday on Tiki and Tierney on CBS Sports Radio, NFL insider Jay Glazer said Harbaugh is 'better suited for college,' because his players tend to get 'tired' of him after a few years.
“A guy like Jim, every three years, he has basically a new group of guys. His guys move on and they’re like, ‘Okay, we’re tired of it.’ And they move on, and a new group comes in. I personally think he’s better suited for college than he is for the NFL," Glazer said.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported last week that Harbaugh is 'believed to be eyeing' an NFL return -- and that NFL teams are 'doing their homework' on Harbaugh. But Glazer shot that down.
Asked if he's heard rumblings of any NFL team being interested in Harbaugh, Glazer said, “No, I have not.”
“There hasn’t been [NFL interest in him] the last few years, so I don’t know why it would suddenly come to light this year," said Glazer.
Especially with Michigan in the midst of its worst season of Harbaugh's six-year tenure.
At this point, signs are pointing toward Harbaugh getting an extension in Ann Arbor this offseason. Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said Tuesday they will discuss Habaugh's future at the end of the season.
Despite his recent struggles at his alma mater, Harbaugh was an incredibly successful head coach in the NFL. He went 44-19-1 with the 49ers, played in three NFC Championships and one Super Bowl, and has the fifth-highest winning percentage (.695) in NFL history.
But it doesn't look like he'll be coaching there again -- at least not anytime soon.
