The Tigers have signed infielder Jonathan Schoop to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Saturday.
The deal is worth $15 million, and it includes an opt-out after the 2022 season, Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported.
Schoop, 29, is having a strong season in his second year in Detroit. He was hitting .289 with 18 homers, 64 RBIs and an .801 OPS in 107 games entering Saturday.
"He’s done an outstanding job," Tigers general manager Al Avila said of Schoop on 97.1 The Ticket back in July. "He’s been the perfect guy to have on this team because he’s very personable, he gets along with everybody, he’s one of the hardest workers and he’s been producing at a high level.”
