Karsch and Anderson: "Love both players" for Lions, but was the value right?

The Lions sent shockwaves through the NFL Thursday night, spending first-round picks on running back Jahmyr Gibbs and linebacker Jack Campbell. And GM Brad Holmes went from a savior a pariah in the eyes of many fans.

"At about 8:30 last night, everyone thought Brad Holmes was a ninja (after he traded down from No. 6)," says Doug Karsch. "And by 10:00, he was a moron. It's just amazing how these thing change."

Karsch says he understands the questions about "the positional value of a running back and a linebacker at 12 and 18," but "I love both players. And it's clear that Brad Holmes doesn't think they got just a running back and just an off-the-ball linebacker. He is seeing these players differently than 'RB' and 'LB.' He sees them as more versatile chess pieces that can move a lot of different directions for them."

Gator says that midway through this season, "We're all going to say, 'We love Jahmyr Gibbs. He's great.'" Again, it's not the player, it's the resource. I think Jack Campbell is a great pick, I like Jack Campbell a lot. Was it early at 18? Probably, but if you wanted a linebacker, you got your linebacker at 18 and he was trending to being a first-round pick. What people are going to complain about is who was passed over."
