The Lions swung big -- really big -- before sending Matthew Stafford to the Rams for a haul of draft picks and Jared Goff.
In their initial trade talks with the Rams, the Lions asked for six-time All-Pro DT Aaron Donald, according to Adam Schefter.
The Rams, unsurprisingly, shot that down.
Donald has 46.5 sacks over the last three seasons. He was Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, 2018 and 2020.
Stafford also drew serious interest from the Panthers. Carolina offered Detroit the 8th overall pick, a fifth-round pick and QB Teddy Bridgewater, according to Schefter, but the Lions preferred the offer they got from the Rams.
