The Dallas Mavericks are making a move to shore up their center spot behind rookie center Dereck Lively II.

The Mavericks agreed to a trade with the Washington Wizards to acquire big man Daniel Gafford in exchange for center Richaun Holmes and draft compensation, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

It's unknown what draft picks Dallas will send Washington.

Gafford has started all 45 of the games he's appeared in with Washington this season and is averaging 10.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

Gafford, 6-10, will provide the Mavericks with the size and rebounding they've lacked off the bench all season. The 25-year-old will also give Dallas another lob threat and more rim protection, as Gafford averages 2.2 blocks per game.

Gafford is under contract through 2025-26 at an average salary of $13.3 million per years.

Holmes, 30, has played sparingly for the Mavs this season, averaging 3.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 23 appearances. He's earning just over $12 million this season and his contract includes a player option for $12.8 million in 2024-25.
