A month after landing UNC transfer and former five-star recruit Caleb Love, Michigan basketball has lost him.
Love, who announced in April he was transferring to Michigan, backed out of his commitment on Wednesday due to a reported admissions issue. He has reopened his recruitment.
The admissions issue was reportedly related to academic credits transferring from UNC.
Love was a big get for Juwan Howard and Michigan, a backcourt scorer who would have helped make up for the NBA departures of Kobe Bufkin and Jett Howard. One of the top players in the portal, he led UNC last season with 16.7 points per game.
With Hunter Dickinson also having departed to Kansas, the Wolverines are trying to replace their top three scorers coming off an 18-16 season. And their incoming recruiting class, transfers included, ranks No. 74 in the country, per 247 Sports.
Michigan has secured two transfers in Tray Jackson from Seton Hall and Nimari Burnett from Alabama, but Love was their biggest offseason addition to date.
Now he's gone.
