The first College Football Playoff rankings of the year are here, and some Michigan fans are surprised to see the Wolverines outside the top four – for now.

The Wolverines (8-0) come in at No. 5 in the first edition of the CFP rankings – one spot behind Clemson for a would-be playoff spot.

Also a bit of a surprise, Tennessee Comes in a No. 1, with Ohio State 2nd and Georgia at No. 3. Alabama sits one spot behind Michigan.

No. 7 TCU is the only undefeated team outside the top 5.

There will be plenty of shakeups to the rankings with four regular season games left, and we could already see one this weekend, as Tennessee visits Georgia on Saturday.

The Wolverines head to Rutgers this weekend, then round out the regular season with visits from Nebraska and 16th-ranked Illinois, before the all-important finale at Ohio State on Nov. 26.
