For the second time in three years, Michigan will be searching for a new football coach. Sherrone Moore was fired Wednesday after two seasons on the job for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

"Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately," per a statement from Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel. "Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior."

Michigan announced that associate head coach Biff Poggi has been named interim head coach, effective immediately. The Wolverines are preparing to play Texas in the Citrus Bowl after a 9-3 regular season.

Moore, 39, took over as head coach in 2024 after Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL and went 17-8 in two seasons.
