The top high school running back in the class of 2026 is headed to Michigan.

Five-star Savion Hiter from Virginia has committed to Michigan, choosing the Wolverines on Tuesday over Tennessee, Ohio State and Georgia. Hiter also held offers from the likes of Alabama, Texas and Notre Dame.

Hiter is the No. 1-ranked running back in his class and the No. 9-ranked player overall, per the 247 Sports Composite. He becomes the eighth highest-rated commit in Michigan history.

5'11 and 200 pounds, Hiter is described as a "juiced-up running back with star potential for a College Football Playoff contender given the mix of his burst, power, agility, balance and vision," per 247 Sports.

"Overall, should be viewed as a gifted ball carrier that can be a multi-year impact player on Saturdays and provide valuable minutes as early as Year 1. Must avoid setbacks and remain hungry, but profiles as a future NFL Draft pick with his size, testing and feel for the position."

Hiter is the headliner of Michigan's 2026 recruiting class that now ranks No. 10 in the country and fourth in the Big Ten behind USC, Oregon and Ohio State.
