Texas Tech lost in brutal fashion on Sunday’s Round of 32 NCAA Tournament game against Arkansas.

The Red Raiders had trailed by as many as 13 in the second half and rallied back to have a chance to take the lead — or at least force overtime — on their last two final possessions but missed back-to-back wide open layups. The final miss came with time expiring to seal a 68-66 win for the Razorbacks.

The loss led to some reaction on social media, most notably Patrick Mahomes — who starred at Texas Tech prior to becoming a Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mahomes summed up pretty much how every Texas Tech fan felt at the time with a single emoji.

Meanwhile, the Texas Tech fans in attendance at the game were doing the real thing.

The game was marred with some questionable officiating, and some argued that those last two layups Texas Tech missed should have also been called fouls.

Yet, Texas Tech was the beneficiary of some generous calls, so perhaps this was the universe evening things out.

While there was heartbreak for Texas Tech, there was euphoria for Arkansas.

The win marked the school’s first trip to the Sweet 16 since 1996, and head coach Eric Musselman must have been well aware of this as he had quite possibly the most emphatic celebration on the court — leaping onto the scorer’s table and looking out toward the fans.

That’s March Madness for ya.
