Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington said on his weekly radio show that the organization is making changes to Paul Skenes’ schedule so he can pitch during the All-Star Game next week.
“We did make some adjustments to his calendar so that his pitching now and the All-Star Break will allow him to be eligible to pitch on Tuesday, July 15,” said Cherington.
Fan Morning Show co-host Adam Crowley says he knows that things like this have happened before, but if he was Cherington he would’ve kept his mouth closed on the subject.
“I know the Pirates aren’t going anywhere this year, but the year they fired the manager . . . is because they thought they could accomplish something this year and you should be trying to win baseball games when you’re not mathematically eliminated,” said Crowley.
The Pirates did score zero runs in a 1-0 final on Sunday, but “you are pulling your best player from a game because you have your eyes on a game that’s over a week away that does not count for the standings,” said Crowley.
