Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani notched another first Thursday at Comerica Park, to the detriment of the Tigers.
While Ohtani went hitless in five trips to the plate, he twirled a one-hit shutout on the mound for his first career complete game in the Angels' 6-0 win over Detroit.
The final line for the inimitable Ohtani: nine innings, one hit, three walks, eight strikeouts. Too easy.
It's been that kind of year for Ohtani, the runaway American League MVP with two months remaining in the season. He now leads the majors in both batting average against (.185) as a pitcher and OPS (1.053) as a hitter. His 36 homers also lead the majors and his 156 strikeouts on the mound rank fourth.
In other words, he's been baseball's most most dangerous batter and most difficult pitcher to hit, all at once. The man is outdoing Babe Ruth.
On Thursday in Detroit, he merely proved it again.
