The halfway point of this MLB season is here already, with the league and its fans gearing up for the All-Star Break. And the betting odds are out for who will win the spectacle that is the Home Run Derby.
(Odds courtesy of BetMGM)
It’s no surprise that Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani is the favorite to win the Home Run Derby with +325 odds. Ohtani has hit 32 home runs so far this season. He also just broke the record for most home runs hit in a season by a Japanese-born player, which was previously held by Hideki Matsui, who released a statement following Ohtani’s 32nd homer.
Joey Gallo of the Texas Rangers comes in next in odds at +450, followed by New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso at +500. Oakland A’s first baseman Matt Olson comes in next at +650, then Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story at +700, Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez at +800, Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto at +900, and Baltimore Orioles first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini at +1100.
I’m pulling for Ohtani to win this event to keep his better-than-Babe-Ruth season going.
The Home Run Derby takes place on July 12 at Coors Field.
