ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Blues are set to play outdoor hockey again as the team will head to the Friendly Confines to take on a familiar rival on New Years Day in 2025.
According to Ben Pope with the Chicago Sun Times, the Blues and Blackhawks are set to participate in the 2025 Winter Classic, with the matchup set to take place at the Wrigley Field.
Mark Lazerus with The Athletic also confirmed the report that the Blues and Blackhawks will play in the 2025 Winter Classic.
It will mark the third time the Blues have participated in the Winter Classic. The Blues are undefeated in the Winter Classic, winning both their games against the Blackhawks and the Minnesota Wild. The Blues previously hosted the 2017 Winter Classic at Busch Stadium beating the Blackhawks 4-1 and then visited Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2022 Winter Classic blowing out the Wild 6-4.
The Blackhawks have become a constant presence in the Winter Classic, with the franchise set to participate in the Classic a league high five times since the outdoor event started in 2007.
The Blackhawks will host the Classic for the third time, but at Wrigley Field for only the second time. The Blackhawks have hosted the Classic at Wrigley Field in 2009 against the Detroit Red Wings and in 2019, they hosted the game at the Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana against the Boston Bruins. The Blackhawks have not won any of the previous four Winter Classic games they have participated in.
