Steph Curry is a media master and could likely be a politician if he ever desired.

On Thursday evening, Curry posted to his Instagram story about the Chris Paul-Jordan Poole trade that was made official earlier in the day. While bidding farewell to his understudy, Poole, Steph also gave a warm welcome to one of his fiercest former rivals in Paul.

Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area shared the clip of Curry’s reaction shortly before midnight on Thursday.

“Now that the trade is actually final, felt like I could come on here and just say to JP how much I appreciated the four years, brother,” Curry said. “You’re a champion. You grew up right in front of everybody’s face in terms of that first year where it was rough, a lot injuries, trying to find your way to going to the G League and coming back and helping us finish 15-5 your second year and us winning a championship your third year, and fighting until the end this past year. Can’t wait to see you blossom, big fella. Can’t wait to see you shine in your own situation. Looking forward to competing, obviously, but being a big fan of everything that you become. Good luck to you.”

Though he is about to enter the first season of his four-year, $123 million contract, Poole’s turnovers and questionable defense hampered his ability to earn coach Steve Kerr’s trust in the playoffs this past season. Emerging from the shadow of Curry and Klay Thompson, Poole is now positioned to become the leading man of the revamped Wizards franchise, as he teams up with forward Kyle Kuzma after they traded away Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis this offseason.

And Curry is set to join forces with Paul, as the two have had an intense on-court rivalry since Steph joined the league in 2009.

“CP, can’t wait to rock with you, brother,” Curry said. “It’ll be different with us on the same side. But let’s get it! Let’s get it!”
