Miguel Cabrera's final homestand didn't necessarily get off to the start he'd hoped. At least not from a stats-standpoint.
Cabrera went 0-for-3 with a walk, but the Tigers hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning en route to a 6-3 win over the Kansas City Royals.
As he stepped to the plate each time, Miggy got a standing ovation from the fans at Comerica Park – where the No. 24 is cut into the center field grass as Cabrera's career draws to a close.
After a Spencer Torkelson double tied the game 2-2 in the sixth, Akil Baddoo led off the eighth with a monster shot to center field. Parker Meadows followed that up with a solo shot of his own three pitches later.
Tarik Skubal will take the mound Wednesday night for the Tigers, who, while eliminated from postseason contention, sit a half-game ahead of the Guardians for second place in the AL Central after Tuesday's action.
Earlier this season the Royals honored Cabrera with a framed photo collection of the night he clinched the 2012 Triple Crown in Kansas City. Cleveland, meanwhile, gave him a customized guitar.
This weekend it will be the Tigers' turn to honor Miggy, with a weekend full of giveaways, tributes and ceremonies as Detroit takes on Cleveland in the final three games of his career.
