It's another big week for the Lions in their search for a head coach.
After interviewing a trio of candidates last week, the team will interview three more this week -- including a new name in Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. Detroit requested an interview with Bowles over the weekend.
Bowles, who will also reportedly interview with the Falcons, is the second of Detroit's seven candidates who's already served as a full-time head coach in the NFL. He led the Jets from 2015-18 during which time they went 24-40. His highlight may have been a blowout of Matt Patricia's Lions to kick off the 2018 season on Monday Night Football.
In two seasons under Bowles, Tampa's defense has gone from No. 27 in the NFL to No. 15 to No. 6. The Bucs led the league in rushing defense and were tied for fourth in sacks in 2020. They play the Saints in the divisional round of the playoffs this weekend.
Also interviewing with the Lions this week: Saints assistant head coach/tight ends coach Dan Campbell on Monday and Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith on Tuesday, according to reports. Smith is in particularly high demand -- all six teams with head coaching vacancies have requested to interview him.
Last week, Detroit interviewed 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and interim head coach Darrell Bevell. The team also interviewed former Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis the week before that.
