Warroad Girls Hockey Coach Dave Marvin had been under intense scrutiny after several parents attempted to defame his reputation. They were alleging he conducted some lewd actions in front of the girls and sexually harassed and bullied his players.
This went on for about 10 months and it all turned out to be false. They just wanted him fired.
In the end, Marvin won a defamation lawsuit in which the parents paid him $17,000 and donated another $5,000 to a mental health nonprofit for young athletes.
Marvin was on with WCCO's Adam and Jordana Thursday morning and spoke about the situation.
"These kids won two state championships, they played regular shifts, they played a lot," says Marvin. "They, their parents just got jealous of some other situations of maybe the first power play or the second power play or first line or second line."
Marvin was never disciplined and in fact his contract was renewed. He now believes it all may have stemmed from playing time.
"The administration wasn't going to deal with that over playing time," Marvin explained. "And so they resorted to personal attacks, you know, against me and it just got to the point where it was so bad they were going on podcasts and tearing my family apart, and our program."
The parents listed in the lawsuit are: Kristin Coauette Johnson of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Coreen Lindquist and Jeff and Patti Johnson of Warroad and Matt and Shana Lanctot of Red Lake Falls, MN.
Marvin adds that he's now focused on the future and plans to continue coaching. He has coached Warroad High girls hockey for 17 years and has won five state championships, including three straight.
