LSU showdown with UCLA suspended due to weather, to resume Tuesday

LSU baseball is still in the driver's seat of its trip to Omaha, but the weather has made things a bit more complicated.

The Tigers' winners bracket showdown with UCLA was suspended late Monday evening and will be resumed at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Tigers led 5-3 when play was suspended after the top of the third inning.

The game had a wild start, with the Bruins plating three runs in the top of the first inning, only to have LSU answer with a four-spot of their own in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by a 3-run blast by Jared Jones. It's a disappointing development for the Tigers, who had chased UCLA starter Landon Stump after 2 innings. Tigers starter Anthony Eyanson settled down after the rough first and held UCLA without a hit over the next three, but he will be unavailable to continue the game on Tuesday.

The Tigers could potentially turn to freshman Casan Evans, who closed out the victory over Arkansas in the opener on Saturday.

The schedule will become very compressed for whichever team falls in the matchup. Oregon State and Louisville are schedule to face off at 1 p.m., with the loser of LSU-UCLA expected to face Arkansas in an elimination game. The Razorbacks will be significantly more rested for that game after taking down Murray State behind a no-hitter from Gage Root, the first such performance in 65 years.

Catch all the action from the rest of LSU-UCLA on WWL and Audacy. Coverage will begin at 9:30 a.m.
