Nabers was the second LSU player picked after Jayden Daniels at No. 2 overall. Fellow Tigers WR Brian Thomas Jr. was also expected to be a first round selection. Nabers is the highest WR selected since Ja'Marr Chase went No. 5 overall in the 2021 draft. The Giants are familiar with LSU wide receivers, having drafted Odell Beckham Jr. No. 12 overall in 2014.

For Nabers, the pick is the culmination of an LSU career that set new program records with 189 catches and 3,003 yards, two marks that had stood since 2001 (Josh Reed).

Nabers was the top weapon in a high-powered LSU offense that generated a Heisman winner in Daniels. Nabers missed out on the Belitnikoff award by a narrow margin to Marvin Harrison Jr., who went at No. 4 overall to the Cardinals. Nabers, a Louisiana native, finished his senior season with 89 catches, 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns.
