First, the good. Tight end Nick Vannett returned to practice after missing Tuesday. He was reportedly dealing with an illness.

The bad, is that LB Pete Werner remains M.I.A. as he recovers from a nagging groin injury. The sound of the clock is ticking louder for Werner if he wants to be ready for week 1 at Atlanta on September 11th.

Also, not seen at practice:
OT Ryan Ramczyk
OL Forrest Lamp
DT Jaleel Johnson

Meanwhile, LB Chase Hansen, OT Landon Young and RB Dwayne Washington were present but did not take part in the workout.

Jameis Winston was in pads and did some drills but was just an observer for the team portions of practice. QB1 was moving well, no noticeable ill effects from his sprained foot. Winston will not play in preseason game #2. We'll wait and see if he gets any reps in the 3rd exhibition contest at home against the LA Chargers.

The ugly was OTs Trevor Penning and James Hurst leaving practice with injuries.  Penning would return, jogging back onto the field from the locker room. Coach Dennis Allen would only say Hurst hurt his foot.

That’s it for the joint practices with the Packers. The Saints will go thru a walk-thru Thursday, then play Green Bay 7pm Friday in Lambeau Field.
