Bobby Hebert: Drew Brees has had an outstanding career, but I think that was his last game

It was a disappointing end to a promising season, something that has happened to the Saints for the fourth straight year now. The Saints have won 49 regular season games over that stretch but have failed to make it to even the NFC Championship, let alone the Super Bowl.

“What's so sad is that the Saints are so successful...but not successful,” WWL's Bobby Hebert said. “In this country we're winners; we're measured as champions. They only have one prize.

“When you win a championship, you can be so happy,” Hebert continued. “Well, the Saints have not been happy since the 2009 season. We all remember the Super Bowl parade in 2010. Man, that's been a long time.”

That New Orleans had a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback, one who was shattering records left and right, makes it all the worse.

“I think Drew Brees is going to fade off into the sunset,” Hebert continued. “He's had an outstanding career. But it's a shame that we've only won one Super Bowl in basically a decade and a half considering how good this team is.”

Brees left the door open to a return in his postgame comments, and Hebert stressed that the Saints would be wise to bring Brees back if he decided to play one more year. The Cajun Cannon just does not think that's particularly likely.

“You never want to end on this kind of note,” Hebert said. “But having the cracked ribs and the punctured lung and all that and the different things he has in the works going forward, I probably think it is his last game.”
