Kellen Moore on WWL: Saints put heavy focus on finishing strong at Superdome

The New Orleans Saints went into a Week 16 showdown with the Jets with a lot on their mind. One of those things: Put on a strong showing in front of the home faithful one final time in a resurgent 2025 campaign.

That's exactly what happened, with the Saints taking down the slumping Jets 29-6 in a game that doubled as a vintage Taysom Hill and Cam Jordan showing in the home finale at the Caesars Superdome.

"We put a lot of importance into this," head coach Kellen Moore told Bobby Hebert and Mike Hoss this week on WWL Radio. "This is our last opportunity to play at home in front of our fans in the Dome. We’ve been able to win a couple of them at home and so we wanted to finish off strong. I thought there was great energy in the Dome."

The fans in the building certainly had plenty to cheer for. The Saints took down their third consecutive win, Taysom Hill threw a touchdown pass and became the first modern-era player to have 1,000 yards passing, rushing and receiving, and Cam Jordan back sacks on back-to-back plays in what could be his final home game for the Saints. The defense had a season-high 8 sacks and Tyler Shough logged his first 300-yard passing game.

Not a bad week for the Who Dat Nation, even in a season that will finish outside of the playoffs.

"I thought the fans did an excellent job, you know, they showed some resiliency just like all of us to kind of navigate this season the way we all have," Moore continued. "I thought it was great energy and I thought some of our veteran guys made some phenomenal contributions in this game, so credit to those guys as this season has transpired. For those guys to be playing the way they are, I think it’s just really special on those guys.”

The Saints (5-10) will look to continue their win streak on the road for the final two games, starting with the Titans (3-12) at noon, Sunday. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.

More from Moore

On Taysom Hill's day

“Just an awesome game by Taysom. You know, again, these guys face challenging situations in this league, you’ve got to respond the right way. I thought he responded just phenomenal. We asked him to do a lot of things just with our roster, the way everything has been moving. He was involved with a lot of different things. From playing running back to playing quarterback, to lining up at tight end and receiver, he contributed in a lot of positive ways and it was a really cool way to finish.”

On Chris Olave

“I think Chris has just had an awesome year, getting better each and every opportunity. I think as you’ve seen the season progress he’s gotten better and he’s still a younger player … as far as different opportunities that he’s going to have to grow and I think this was a great example, again, a game where he certainly had a number of targets, he played a number of different positions, his versatility showed up, played inside and outside, played a lot of snaps and so I thought there were a lot of positives and he made some big plays that had huge impacts on this game.”

━━
On the need for faster starts

“There’s definitely frustration there. I think we obviously recognize, you know, the slow starts we’ve had. We’ve got to play better there. We’ve got to find ourself a better formula that allows us to be successful there, because there’s a lot of positives in the back end, those last three quarters. I feel like there’s a lot of statistical positive things that have occurred because of that, but we’ve got to start faster. We know that if you get a lead in the Dome, playing with our fans, you know, that could be a really, really special place and we’ve just got to get there.”

On Titans matchup

“It’s a team that’s gotten better each week, each opportunity they’ve had. They have some really talented players, starting with the offense, they’ve got Cam Ward. He’s getting better each week, he’s going to be a big-time quarterback in this league. Tony Pollard, I was with him in Dallas, he can make big-time plays from the running back position,. They’ve invested a ton in the offensive line, then on defense they’ve got some premiere players. Their front, they’ve invested in heavily, they’ve got one of the best interior defensive linemen in the entire NFL and you can tell they’ve gotten a lot better as the season has progressed.”
