Saints announce 8 roster moves ahead of showdown with Panthers; Kendre Miller back to IR
The New Orleans Saints were busy on the Saturday ahead of their Week 9 shwdown with the Panthers, announcing 8 total moves.
The moves were necessary due to a slew of injuries at the running back and cornerback positions, prompting the Saints to sign three players from their practice squad, elevate another pair from the practice squad, waive a depth lineman and send a pair of injured offensive playmakers to injured reserve.
Here's how those moves broke down:
Signed from practice squad
- S Millard Bradford
- RB Jordan Mims
- CB Shemar Jean-Charles
Elevated
- S Rod Teamer
- CB Tre Herndon
Waived
- G/C Kyle Hergel
To IR
- RB Kendre MIller (hamstring)
- WR Bub Means (ankle)
The moves were necessitated due to a slew of injuries that included hamstring injuries for CBs Marshon Lattimore and Kool-Aid McKinstry, both of whom have been ruled out. Rookie CB Rico Payton is also questionable with a back injury.
The Saints have not yet indicated how they plan to deploy their safeties, but they'll rely heavily on Alontae Taylor and Ugo Amadi, the only two healthy CBs heading into the weekend. Shemar Jean-Charles spent training camp with the Saints and saw first-team work when Lattimore was out due to a hip injury. The other Week 1 starter Paulson Adebo is out for the year as he recovers from a broken femur.
Mims has had an interesting season, starting out on the active roster and being utilized primarily on special teams with Miller starting the season out on IR due to a hamstring injury. His current hamstring injury is to the opposite leg and represents the latest in a string of frustrating injures for a young player who has been productive in his opportunities, but simply can't stay healthy. Veteran Jamaal Williams has already been ruled out due to a groin injury.
The Saints (2-6) face off with the Panthers (1-7) in Charlotte at noon, Sunday. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
