There's no more reason to wonder: All four Saints QBs will be present when the New Orleans Saints break training camp next week.
There was some question to that front as long as rookie QB Tyler Shough remained unsigned, and that is no longer the case. The team and rookie QB have come to terms on a fully guaranteed, 4-year deal, according to a report from ESPN, that marks a first for the franchise.
Shough's deal, according to the report, also includes language that the QB will receive a majority of his compensation each year during the first week of camp. All contracts in the second round are slotted in terms of total value, with Shough's deal coming in at roughly $10.7 million. The former Louisville standout was the lone QB selected in the second round this year, making his situation of particular interest around the league.
The signing marks an end to a conversation for the Saints that has engulfed the entire league when it comes to second-round picks, at least for this season. Heading into the past week 30 of 32 teams had yet to sign their second-round picks, with the other two landing fully guaranteed deals. Agents and teams were at something of an impasse, with teams not wanting to set the precedent for full guarantees for second rounders, but that stance cleared waned throughout the week with a majority of the picks ahead of Shough at No. 40 landing full guarantees.
The trend ends quickly behind Shough, with players like Mason Taylor (with the Jets) landing large guarantees, but something shy of full.
The contract means there will be no holdout for the rookie QB, something the Saints certainly didn't want to see with a player they expect to compete for the starting job along with Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener. Rookies are expected to report on Monday, with practices beginning on Wednesday at the team facility in Metaire.
