Saints send 5 players to PUP, Chris Olave to non-football injury list ahead of training camp

The New Orleans Saints have made a slew of roster moves ahead of the start of training camp, with six players heading to either the physically unable to perform and non-football injury list.

All five players headed to the physically unable to perform list have been dealing with known injuries earlier this offseason. Four players headed to the standard list include TE Juwan Johnson (foot), LB Nephi Sewell (knee), DE Chase Young (neck) and DE Tanoh Kpassagnon (achilles).

Those players are eligible to return at any point once they are able to play. Sewell and Kpassagnon are dealing with significant injuries and will likely miss some time. Sewell suffered a torn ACL in a Week 17 win over the Bucs last season, while Kpassagnon tore his achilles during an offseason workout.

The return timeline should be shorter for Johnson and Young, both of whom underwent surgery to repair lingering issues earlier this offseason.

Ryan Ramczyk, meanwhile, is headed to the reserve PUP list, which means he will miss the entirety of the 2024 season. The move mirrors the not-so-positive outlook for Ramczyk's return from a knee issue that cut short his 2023 season and has not responded well to treatment, according to head coach Dennis Allen.

The Saints also made a pair of moves relative to non-football injuries, bringing rookie WR Bub Means off the NFI list just a few days after he was placed on it. The Saints are also placing star WR Chris Olave on the NFI list. Olave dealt with a shoulder issue throughout minicamp.

The injury is relative to minor back stiffness, according to a report from NewOrleans.football.

The Saints kick off their 2024 camp with their first practice on Wednesday, July 24 in Irvine, California.
