Saints sign new OL, DL pieces ahead of OTAs

The New Orleans Saints have added two new players across the offensive and defensive lines as they ready for the first of three sets OTAs.

The team announced Monday that it had signed G/C Lucas Patrick as well as DT Kendal Vickers, while DT John Penisini has been waived.

Patrick is a 7-year NFL veteran, first seeing action with the Green Bay Packers after latching on as a UDFA in 2017. He's spent the past two seasons with the Chicago Bears, starting 15 games in 2023 for a team that included current Saints backup Nathan Peterman and QBs coach Andrew Janocko. He'll likely factor into the mix for both guard and the backup center role.

Vickers was an undrafted free agent of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018 and has also spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Buffalo Bills. In his career he's appeared in 26 games (2 starts) with 22 tackles and 2 sacks.

The Saints completed their rookie minicamp over the weekend, which featured a pair of intriguing young prospects on the interior defensive line in 6th round pick Khristian Boyd and UDFA Kyler Baugh. The Saints will next be in action on May 21 as they begin voluntary OTAs, which will take place each subsequent weekend leading up to a mandatory minicamp from June 3-6.
