Saints TE Juwan Johnson dealing with groin injury: report

The New Orleans Saints are dealing with their first significant injury adversity of the Kellen Moore era, but it appears they've avoided anything major.

TE Juwan Johnson left practice early on Wednesday with an injury, which head coach Kellen Moore indicated after practice was not believed to be significant. The issue is a groin injury, according to a report from NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, but it's believed he should only miss a few days.

The Saints also saw TE Treyton Welch and DT Jonathan Ridgeway leave practice early with undisclosed injuries.

"[TE depth is] something we’ll just have to keep an eye on," Moore said. "If we have to make any adjustments, we will. We might have to adjust some scripts, just, if you don’t have the bodies there you’ll just be playing a little bit of different personnel groups.”

The Saints are notably thin at the position with both Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau starting the season out on the PUP list as they work back from knee injuries suffered during the 2024 season. The Saints opted to extend Johnson on a 3-year, $30 million deal, but otherwise stuck with low-level signings highlighted by Jack Stoll, whom Moore worked with previously with the Eagles.

The Saints also drafted Moliki Matavao out of UCLA in the 7th round of the most recent draft, and also have Michael Jacobson back in camp for the third year.

New Orleans is one of multiple teams that has had veteran TE Noah Fant in for a visit, but to this point there has been no public movement on a potential deal.
