Saints to honor Drew Brees during TNF showdown with Sean Payton's Broncos

The New Orleans Saints will be welcoming Sean Payton back to the Caesars Superdome this week, but they plan to make the day about a different Super Bowl legend.

The Saints announced this week that they'll be honoring Drew Brees at halftime of the Thursday Night Football showdown against the Broncos with the QB legend's official induction into the team Hall of Fame. The honor was announced earlier this year.

The team will also honor Saints gameday announcer Doug Moreau will receive the prestigious Joe Gemelli “Fleur de Lis” award.

It's a somewhat late announcement for such a notable event, coming barely 72 hours before the game that will feature the Saints' former head coach returning to New Orleans for the first time. The team also announced that all fans in attendance would be given a Drew Brees-themed rally towel and and all fans are encouraged to wear all black. The Saints are also running a sweepstakes to win an autographed Drew Brees jersey, two tickets to the game and a $200 gift card to the team store. The contest can be entered by going to neworleanssaints.com/fans/contests/ but those must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Monday (Oct. 14).

Brees' visits to the Dome in recent years, the most recent coming in Week 2, haven't turned into positive results, but the Saints will be hoping that some extra energy in the building can help flip the current 4-game losing streak into something more positive. The team is coming off a 51-27 loss to the Bucs in Week 6. The Saints have no lost five consecutive games since the 2021 season, Payton's last in New Orleans.

The Saints (2-4) host the Bucs (3-3) at the Caesars Superdome at 7:15 p.m. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
