The New Orleans Saints were one of the most popular teams in trade rumors heading up to this year's deadline, and they delivered on that interest late Tuesday morning.
The Saints have agreed to trade WR and return specialist Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks. The deal was done in return for 4th and 5th round draft picks in the 2026 draft. The deal was officially announced just after 2 p.m.
The move reunites Shaheed with several of his former coaches, including former offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Shaheed had been productive in the 2025 season as he worked back from a significant knee injury the year prior, hauling in 44 catches for 499 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The yardage total was second on the team to Chris Olave.
Olave was among the first to react to the deal, replying to his fellow former Ohio State Buckeye and new Shaheed teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the message: "You got a great one bro."
The Saints' offense has been largely unable to take advantage of Shaheed's downfield potential outside of an 87-yard touchdown against the Giants and a 39-yard grab against the 49ers. Shaheed has not had any of his other catches account for more than 26 yards, a disappointing result considering his deep threat ability in past seasons.
Shaheed, 27, was a revelation for the Saints early in his career after being signed as a UDFA out of Weber State ahead of the 2022 season. He began his career on the Saints practice squad before being signed midseason, then took his first two career touches for long touchdowns.
He'll now join an explosive Seahawks offense that is currently atop the NFC West at 6-2 and is coming off of a 38-14 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 9.
The move is the first of what could potentially be a busy day of transactions for a Saints team that is currently sitting at 1-8 and with several players who could draw interest from other teams. The trade also opens up more snaps for WR Devaughn Vele, who was acquired prior to the season in a trade that sent 4th and 7th round selections to the Broncos.
All trades must be processed by 3 p.m. (central).
