Saints rookie QB Tyler Shough made it to the NFL Honors, but it was Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan that walked away with Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Shough was a finalist for the award alongside Bucs WR Emeka Egbuka, Giants QB Jaxson Dart and Patriots RB Treveyon Henderson.
Here's how the voting broke down (first place votes in parentheses):
- WR Tetairoa McMillan, Panthers: 445 points (41)
- QB Tyler Shough, Saints: 168 (5)
- RB TreVeyon Henderson: 111 (1)
- QB Jaxson Dart: 88 (1)
- Emeka Egbuka: 66 (0)
It was Shough's father in law, Derek Wormdahl, who read off the winner of the award, noting that he was there in place of his daughter, Jordan, who was at home with the couple's first child expected later in the month.
Shough was named the winner of the Pepsi Rookie of the Year award earlier in the day, which is decided through fan voting.
Accolades or not, Shough's inclusion in the Rookie of the Year conversation at all was indicative of just how much he was able to grab the national media's attention as he took over the starting job for the Saints in Week 9 and engineered a 5-4 finish for a team that started the season 1-8.
That run included four straight victories, highlighted by a pair of close wins over divisional rivals in the Tampa Bay Bucs and Carolina Panthers, followed by back-to-back 300-yard passing performances in wins over the Jets and Titans.
Shough set virtually every Saints rookie passing record, including wins as a starter, passing yards (2,384), completion percentage (67.6) and touchdowns (10).
