The dreaded cicada season is officially here, but not everyone is upset about it.

One dad learned that his young son is not afraid of the creepy crawlers after discovering a container full of the bugs that his seven-year-old is “obsessed” with catching.

Caleb Curtiss from Newark, Delaware, posted a video of his son’s impressive hall of Brook X cicadas, a type of bug emerges above ground in massive numbers once every decade or so. This year, the cicadas emerged for the first time in 17 years and have been swarming across the eastern United States.

The video shows hundreds of bugs in a midsized mesh box net with plenty of fresh plants and vegetables to eat. The makeshift bug home even has plenty of sticks for climbing.

“One thing they do not tell you before you become a parent is that your seven year old son will someday become obsessed with Brood X cicadas and will capture a great many of them and you will have to watch all of this, powerless to do anything about it,” Curtiss joked on Twitter.

Curtiss describes the cicadas as a “noisy bunch” that “are harmless unless you have sensitive ears.”

As if catching the creepy critters isn’t enough, many people have been taking advantage of the cicada season by cooking them up for their next meal.

Chef Joseph Yoon educates foodies on his social media channel @brooklynbugs and prepares insect treats like cicada nymph salad, guacamole, and kimchi.

For most people however, the insect’s creepy loud mating sounds are enough to avoid them at all costs.
