54,000 without power and growing, says Jefferson Parish president

Major power outages sweep across Jefferson Parish as Hurricane Ida makes landfall.

At her press conference Sunday, Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng says there are 54,000 people without power as Hurricane Ida barges inland.

“Of course, all of the electricity is out on Grand Isle, all of the electricity is out in Jean Laffite,” said Sheng.

The same power outages seen in Grand Isle and Jean Lafitte are expected in upper Jefferson Parish as Hurricane Ida crashes through.

Here are the areas experiencing major power outages:

West Bank

Estelle, Manhattan, Harvey, Woodmere, Terrytown.

East Bank

Harahan, Elmwood, Jefferson, Metairie Terrace, Kenner, Airline, and Lafreniere Park.
