Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - "There is no way that Buffalo Public Schools can open safely, it has to be virtual," said Buffalo Teachers Federation President Phil Rumore on WBEN Wednesday morning. Rumore was asked about the decision looming before the Buffalo School Board on the reopening plan that will take effect in less than three weeks.
"We just heard, for the first time Tuesday, that teachers will be required to be in school two or three days a week," said Rumore. "That was just sprung on us. The district is not, in any way, shape or form, ready to open up, even in a hybrid model." He said it's sad because teachers want to be back with the kids.
"We should have been working together since March to figure out how to do this safely," said Rumore.
Scott is hopeful that they're going to find some consensus and work together and get it right for everyone.
"I'm listening to teachers and parents. I've received over 80 emails. I'm responding and hearing everything that teachers and parents are sharing on social media. The district has already taken into consideration and revised our plan to provide that 100% remote learning option and we've already revised our hybrid model, which was a huge concern to parents," said Scott.
The Buffalo School Board meets Wednesday evening.
